Frequently asked Questions

Are Naturopaths Evidence Based?
Yes—at least, I am... Many people are not aware that Naturopathy is an unregulated profession, meaning technically anyone can call themselves a Naturopath. So PLEASE check the qualifications and regulations of the Naturopath you decide to work with.

As a degree-qualified and NHAA certified naturopath myself, I use an evidence-based approach that combines current scientific research, clinical experience, and your individual health history to guide treatment recommendations.

Naturopathic care is not about replacing conventional medicine. Instead, it focuses on identifying and addressing underlying factors that may be contributing to symptoms, while working alongside your GP, specialist, and other healthcare providers.

My recommendations may include nutrition, lifestyle modifications, herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, and functional testing where appropriate. I aim to use interventions that are supported by research and tailored to your unique needs, preferences, and health goals.

Do you offer Telehealth or online appointments?

Yes, I offer both telehealth and in-person appointments.

There is no difference in the length, quality, or level of care provided between the two. During every consultation, I take the time needed to thoroughly understand your health history, concerns, and goals so I can provide personalised recommendations and support.

Telehealth appointments are incredibly popular due to their convenience, allowing you to access professional naturopathic care from the comfort of your own home. Whether we meet online or in person, you can expect the same comprehensive, evidence-based approach and personalised care.

How many appointments will I need?

This varies from person to person and depends on your health concerns, goals, and how long your symptoms have been present.

My aim is never to have you as a client indefinitely. Instead, I want to help you understand your body, address the underlying drivers of your symptoms, and give you the knowledge and tools to support your health long term.

Many clients find they need more regular support initially, with appointments becoming less frequent as their health improves and they feel more confident managing things independently.

If you are taking practitioner-only supplements, I do require a review consultation at least every six months for repeat prescriptions. Similar to medication reviews with your GP, this allows me to ensure the supplements remain appropriate, assess any changes to your health or medications, and maintain safe and effective treatment.

How is naturopathy different from seeing a doctor?

Naturopaths and doctors play different but complementary roles in healthcare.

Doctors are highly trained in diagnosing medical conditions, ordering investigations, prescribing medications, and managing acute or serious health concerns. Naturopaths do not diagnose medical conditions or prescribe pharmaceutical medications.

As a naturopath, my focus is on understanding the factors that may be contributing to your symptoms and supporting your health through nutrition, lifestyle changes, herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, and evidence-based natural therapies. Consultations are typically longer, allowing time to explore your health history, diet, stress levels, sleep, and other aspects of your wellbeing in detail.

I believe the best outcomes often come from an integrative approach. I regularly encourage clients to maintain a relationship with their GP and specialists, and I am happy to work alongside other healthcare providers to support your health goals.

Can I claim naturopathy through private health insurance?

Yes, naturopathy has recently been reinstated as an eligible service for private health insurance extras cover in Australia.

The amount you can claim, and whether naturopathy is included, will depend on your individual health fund and level of cover. As policies vary between insurers, I recommend checking directly with your health fund to confirm your eligibility and rebate amount prior to your appointment.

If you have private health insurance that includes naturopathy, I can provide you with the information required to make a claim where applicable.

WHAT IS NATUROPATHY?

Naturopathy is a distinct system of healthcare that focuses on supporting the body's innate ability to heal itself using nutritional medicine, herbal medicine and natural therapies.
At its core, naturopathy believes in treating the root causes of illness rather than merely alleviating symptoms. Whether this be identifying nutritional deficiencies, imbalances in hormones or a poorly functioning gut microbiome, by addressing the underlying imbalances in the body and mind, I can assist you to achieve long lasting health results. I use a combination of traditional knowledge with modern scientific evidence to provide personalised and comprehensive care.
Naturopathy utilises a wide range of therapeutic modalities to promote wellness. These include clinical nutrition and dietary modifications, herbal medicine, and lifestyle counselling. My treatments are gentle, non-invasive, and prioritise your body's inherent ability to heal. I view each person as a unique individual with specific health needs, and work closely with patients to develop personalised treatment plans tailored to their specific goals and concerns.
