Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Naturopath

Supporting Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis Through Evidence-Based Naturopathic Care

Living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) can be exhausting.

The unpredictable symptoms, constant appointments, dietary confusion, medication side effects, fatigue, and impact on daily life can leave you feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. Whether you've recently been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, or you've been navigating IBD for years, you deserve support that looks beyond symptom management alone.

As a naturopath with a special interest in digestive health, I work alongside your existing medical care to help optimise gut health, reduce inflammation, support nutrient status, improve quality of life, and address the many factors that influence IBD.

My Personal Journey with IBD

My passion for helping people with digestive disorders stems from my own experience.

At 13 years old, I was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and spent much of my teenage years navigating symptoms, medical appointments, medications, hospital stays, and the uncertainty that often comes with chronic illness.

While conventional medicine played an important role in my care, it was really naturopathic care that gave me my life back. Through nutrition, stress management, lifestyle changes, and appropriate supplementation, I was able to regain my health and achieve long-term remission.

That experience shaped not only my career but also the way I work with clients today.

I understand the fear that can come with a diagnosis, the frustration of flares, the impact on social life and confidence, and the desire to feel like yourself again. My goal is to provide evidence-based, compassionate support that helps you feel empowered in your health journey.

How Naturopathy Can Support IBD

IBD is a complex autoimmune condition involving chronic inflammation of the digestive tract. While there is no single cause, research suggests that genetics, the immune system, gut microbiome, diet, environmental factors, and stress all play important roles.

Naturopathic care aims to identify and address factors that may be contributing to ongoing symptoms and inflammation while supporting overall health and wellbeing.

Areas we may focus on include:

  • Gut microbiome health

  • Digestive function

  • Nutritional deficiencies

  • Inflammation and immune regulation

  • Stress and nervous system support

  • Sleep quality

  • Fatigue and energy production

  • Food triggers and dietary optimisation

  • Gut barrier integrity

  • Medication-related nutrient depletion

  • Quality of life and symptom management

Comprehensive Gut Health Assessment

No two people with IBD are the same.

This is why I take an individualised approach, considering your symptoms, medical history, pathology results, medications, lifestyle factors, and health goals.

Depending on your situation, recommendations may include:

GUT MICROBIOME TESTING FOR IBD

Advanced microbiome testing can provide insight into:

  • Beneficial bacterial populations

  • Microbial diversity

  • Inflammatory markers

  • Short-chain fatty acid production

  • Gut barrier health

  • Opportunistic bacteria and dysbiosis

These results can help guide personalised dietary, probiotic, prebiotic, and lifestyle recommendations.

Nutritional Assessment:

People living with IBD are at increased risk of nutrient deficiencies, particularly:

  • Iron

  • Vitamin B12

  • Folate

  • Vitamin D

  • Zinc

  • Magnesium

Addressing these deficiencies can significantly impact energy, immune function, healing, and overall wellbeing.

Dietary Support

There is no one-size-fits-all IBD diet.

Together we identify foods that nourish your body, support your microbiome, minimise unnecessary dietary restrictions, and help you feel confident in your food choices.

The Gut-Brain Connection

One of the most overlooked aspects of IBD is the relationship between stress and gut health.

The gut and brain are constantly communicating through the gut-brain axis. Stress can influence digestive symptoms, gut permeability, immune activity, inflammation, and overall wellbeing.

As part of your treatment plan, we may work on:

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Stress management strategies

  • Sleep optimisation

  • Mindfulness practices

  • Lifestyle modifications to support resilience and recovery

Supporting the nervous system is often just as important as supporting the digestive system.

My Approach

My goal is not to replace your gastroenterologist or medical treatment.

Instead, I work collaboratively alongside your healthcare team to provide additional support through nutrition, lifestyle medicine, herbal medicine, and targeted nutritional supplementation where appropriate.

Every treatment plan is tailored to the individual and designed to be realistic, practical, and evidence-informed.

Conditions I Support

I work with individuals experiencing:

  • Crohn's Disease

  • Ulcerative Colitis

  • Indeterminate Colitis

  • Post-flare recovery

  • Digestive symptoms alongside IBD

  • Fatigue and nutrient deficiencies

  • Stress-related digestive symptoms

  • Gut microbiome imbalances
